What’s with floral petticoats and headgear just because you have stepped into your 50’s? What looks good on you one year would look outdated just because you have grown a year older is bizarre; it isn’t always this cut and dried.
If you are afraid you are going to ‘look’ old in your 50’s you most probably will. However, remember most of the time you are what you wear and the way you dress up can take off years of your actual age.
Instead of bright floral dresses, go for solid figure-hugging, knee length dresses. The lack of skin show adds a nice mature touch while subtly making you look well less than your age. You can team this up with a smart scarf and some pumps.
Have you noticed how women shift to polo t-shirts as they grow old, why on earth? It has become almost clichéd now, and no, it doesn’t help unless of course you’re off to play golf and team polo up with a smart slim-fitting pair of trousers. Stick to stripes (vertical or horizontal depending upon your body shape) and not-too-loud prints. Leave graphic t shirts with rock band emblem on it for your kids.
For a formal look, try pencil skirts and crisp fitting suits. There’s nothing more alluring than power radiating from the way you dress. Don’t forget that accessories make up for 40% of your overall look, so invest in good handbags, classy jewelry, original scarves and comfortable shoes.
Pullovers again are great, team them up with a string of pearls. Keep a tab on your neck and hem line, the former shouldn’t be too low and the latter too high. Wrap around dresses, handkerchief skirts, and maxi dresses are safe bets for any age.
Scarves should be a patent in your wardrobe considering its versatility. Whether you want to add a splurge of color to your outfit or go semi-formal, scarves can be easily manipulated to suit the look. Cotton, and polyester are best for regular wear while if you’re looking for exquisite gifts items, try pashmina and silk scarves, these are known for their opulence and delicate soft fabric.
Faux fur jackets in hot pink are such a disaster at any age. Trench coats, slim-fitting jackets, cardigans, pea coat, and shawls are some winter accessories you can stock up on.
The number one rule to looking young at any age is to stay fit. Workout regularly and keep a check on those junk food cravings.
